WELCOME
TO SALBA

Recent changes in the taxation policies of SARS in respect of vehicle allowances (effective March 2010) and company cars (effective March 2011) have made it imperative for tax payers to keep a logbook, should they wish to claim their travel allowances.

This need has attracted many entrepreneurs, looking to make some money out of this opportunity, into the electronic logbook market. Unfortunately, many of these have sourced cheap GPS Logger devices from the East, paying less attention to the functionality and ease-of-use of the accompanying software.

The public needs to bear in mind that not all logbook systems and the related functionality are of equal quality and this could impact on your ability to claim against travel allowances from SARS. To this end, we at SALBA have created a ‘check-list’ of features that your logbook system should include. To download these, click here.

In addition to the physical characteristics that we recommend, the tenure and support capability of the logbook provider should also be a key consideration - you want to ensure that your supplier is not just here to capitalise on the tax opportunity and then disappear, but will still be around to provide software updates and support when you get your next vehicle, or need to transfer your system to a new computer.

SALBA – helping you make the right choice!
